Time banking is a means of exchange in a community, where time, not money, is the principal currency.

The Greeters is a worldwide movement born in New York in 1992. Greeters are volunteers who propose to show their city to visitors through their own eyes. As inhabitant of the city, they tell their own story and share special places that mean something in their lives. This alternative to classic tourism fosters multicultural exchanges and fulfilment for the visitor and the locals.

Since the economic crisis in Europe first began, the numbers of empty/abandoned buildings have multiplied. It is not uncommon to see vacant shops and other properties displaying "to let" signs in many towns and cities across the continent; processes of dereliction and ghettoisation are occuring as a result. This in turn affects the morale and well-being of local populations, possibly leading to anti-social behaviour, vandalism, etc. This particular section considers some solutions or "remedies" to alleviate the present situation.

A housing co-operative refers to a group of people and the means they use to collectively control and manage their housing. It can buy and own property and enter into contracts. In brief, housing co-ops are essentially housing associations governed by the tenants/ members and give grassroots control over housing.

A food co-operative or food co-op is a food distribution outlet organised as a co-operative. Food co-operatives are usually consumers' co-operatives where the decisions regarding the production and distribution of its food is chosen by its members.

Co-working spaces possess a huge potential to support environmental sustainability due to their inherently sharing-oriented constitution. At its foundations, co-working supports the sharing of space, supplies and other resources, thereby cutting down on basic wastefulness.

Energy Robin Hoods are activists from associations, trade unions and citizens who practice civil disobedience. Their interventions are designed to maintain the gas or electricity, avoiding cuts, and in some cases to reassure the provision of these energies.

Creative Limerick - Connect to the Grid, is coordinated by the Economic Development Department (at Limerick City Council) in partnership with the third level colleges, creative industries, commercial property owners and their agents operating in Limerick City. This project seeks to enhance vibrancy and active frontages in Limerick City Centre and to provide active uses for vacant properties while promoting the work of the Creative Industries in our region.

NOPPES, based in Amsterdam, is a 20 years old LETS (Local Exchange and Trading System). NOPPES's goal is to contribute to a more prosperous (social and economic) life of its members, who exchange talents, services and goods for ‘noppes’, a symbolic currency (noppes means ‘nothing’, no money).

La întrunire vom explora posibilitatea inițierii procesului de construire a localității d-stra ca teritoriu de coresponsabilitate, demers care să permită implicarea cetățenilor în exprimarea dimensiunilor de bunăstare importante pentru viața lor, dar și în dezvoltarea unor răspunsuri concrete, prin punerea în comun a așteptărilor, ideilor și resurselor fiecăruia. Metodologia folosită în acest sens a fost dezvoltată de către Consiliul Europei, Divizia de Coeziune Socială (wikispiral.org).

În timp ce explorează abordări noi/experimentale în cadrul unui proiect axat pe combaterea sărăciei, Consiliul Europei invită cetăţenii şi reprezentanții administrației publice locale la o întrunire cu scopul de a îmbina ideile, expertiza şi resursele în mod colaborativ şi co-responsabil şi a le aplica în acţiuni concrete pe plan local.

The Rushey Green Time Bank's vision is to achieve a cohesive community in the Rushey Green area, where neighbours know neighbours and can rely on each other for help and support. Where people of different ages, cultures, backgrounds and abilities interact with each other on an equal footing and with mutual respect and understanding.

Groups from civil society are campaigning and raising awareness on different issues so that people experiencing poverty are not discriminated and excluded from public spaces.

As a result you will be able to improve the quality of life in your local community as well as inspire others, locally or further afield, to take action and make change a reality.
