Description of the project:

The project to create plots for disabled people has its origin in the perspicacity of the honorary president of the allotment garden federation of Geneva and former vice-president and honorary member of the Swiss allotment garden federation, Frédéric Schaer.

Having been personally disabled for many years, his project helped to get rid of the pre-conceived idea that “The pleasure of gardening is exclusively reserved to those people who enjoy good health”. For people with reduced mobility gardening presents real difficulties. But how could one avoid this problem? The federation of allotment gardens in Geneva took the initiative in realising the necessary adaptations required and tried to meet the real needs of these people as closely as possible.

In order to develop this project a feasibility study was undertaken with several specialist institutions for example the Foyer Handicap in Cressy. Following this the central committee of the allotment garden federation in Geneva decided to start this new project in 2004.

Meanwhile, the Geneva federation was involved in the creation of a new allotment garden site “Les Blanchets” on the territory of the commune of Grd Saconnex. The idea for such a plot was immediately adopted and with the support of the commune this plot was realised before the one in Plan-les-Ouates, as this project was facilitated by the creation of this new allotment garden site.

On February 5th, 2005 the general assembly of delegates of the allotment garden federation in Geneva accepted a loan of 40,000 Sfr in order to financially enable the beginning of the necessary work.

The members of the central committee of the allotment garden federation in Geneva and the president of the allotment garden site of Plan-les-Ouates Thierry Houlmann, supervised the project until its completion. Thierry Houlmann states: “We had to separate the raised beds by corridors allowing wheelchairs to pass. To raise the soil is one problem, but one has to think about a great number of other small details like for example the watering of plants, which constitutes another difficulty for people with a handicap”. He adds “I myself cultivate a garden plot, I therefore know the pleasures of relaxation after a working day”.

Unable to bend due to a paralysis of one arm and one leg, Sandrine Mylonas cultivates a 100 sqm plot. She underlines with a big smile on her face “As the ground is raised, my working area is at an ideal height and reduces my efforts”. Judging by the plants on the raised beds, Sandrine really has green fingers!

Thanks to the financial help given by different institutions like Funds Helios, Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, the allotment garden association of Geneva, the allotment garden federation of the French speaking part of Switzerland and the Swiss allotment garden federation, the work could be done without exceeding the budget.

The inauguration of these two plots for disabled people took place on September 14th, 2007 with many authorities attending this ceremony. They welcomed this initiative “These realisations leave nobody indifferent”. “These gardens are an example and I know more than one resident, who would love to cultivate its vegetables” explains the co-founder member of a holiday house for disabled people. “There is no reason why a vegetable plot cannot be of benefit to everyone” explains Thierry Houlmann. “These plots are the first ones created in Switzerland and we hope that other organisations will follow this example”. It goes without saying that the infrastructures are especially adapted to people suffering from a disability. They are in accordance with the rules and regulations applicable to the specific facilities for disabled people. The home of the association on the site is also equipped with a specially adapted toilet.

Other allotment garden associations, members of the Geneva federation, have put the same principles into practice and there are now four allotment gardens sites in Geneva which welcome people with reduced mobility. The allotment garden association in Bern inaugurated its plot for disabled people last year.

Beschreibung des Projektes:

Das Projekt behindertengerechte Parzellen zu errichten hat seinen Ausgangspunkt in der Weitsichtigkeit von Frédéric Schär, Ehrenpräsident des Genfer Kleingärtnerverbandes, ehemaliger Vize-Präsident und Ehrenmitglied des Schweizer Familiengärtnerverbandes.

Er selbst war während vielen Jahren behindert. Dieses Projekt kam zum günstigen Moment und hat dazu beigetragen eine überlieferte Idee zu widerlegen: „Ist die Freude am Garten ausschließlich den Menschen reserviert deren Körper ganz gesund ist“? Für Personen mit reduzierter körperlicher Mobilität stellt das Gärtnern eine reelle Schwierigkeit dar. Was kann man tun um dieses Problem zu überbrücken? Der Genfer Kleingärtnerverband hat Pioniergeist bewiesen um die notwendigen Anpassungen zu realisieren und dafür zu sorgen dass sie bestmöglich den reellen Bedürfnissen dieser Menschen entsprechen.

Um dieses Projekt realisieren zu können, wurde eine Verwirklichungsstudie mit verschiedenen spezialisierten Institutionen wie zum Beispiel dem Foyer Handicap in Cressy durchgeführt. Daraufhin hat der Zentralvorstand des Genfer Kleingartenverbandes im Jahr 2004 beschlossen dieses neue Projekt durchzuführen.

In der Zwischenzeit hatte der Genfer Kleingärtnerverband damit begonnen eine neue Anlage „Les Blanchets“ in der Gemeinde des Grand Saconnex anzulegen. Es entstand sofort die Idee hier eine Behindertenparzelle einzurichten und mit der Unterstützung der Gemeinde entstand diese Parzelle vor der Parzelle in der Anlage Plan-les-Ouates, da dieses Projekt durch die Anlage dieser neuen Kleingartenanlage vereinfacht wurde. Die Delegiertenversammlung des Genfer Kleingärtnerverbandes hat am 5. Februar 2005 eine Anleihe von 40.000 CHF bewilligt um den Beginn der Arbeiten zu finanzieren.

Die Mitglieder des Zentralvorstandes des Genfer Kleingartenverbandes und der Präsident des Kleingärtnervereines von Plan-les-Ouates, Thierry Houlmann, haben das Projekt bis zu seiner Verwirklichung begleitet. Thierry Houlmann stellt fest: „Man musste die Hochbeete durch einen Pfad trennen, welcher breit genug war, um einem Rollstuhlfahrer zu erlauben hier durchzufahren. Die Erde zu erhöhen ist einfach, aber man muss an eine Vielzahl von kleinen Details denken wie zum Beispiel das Begießen der Hochbeete, weil dies auch eine Schwierigkeit für behinderte Menschen darstellt“. Er fügt hinzu: „Ich bearbeite selbst eine Kleingartenparzelle, ich kenne also die Freude der Entspannung, welche diese nach einem Arbeitstag bringt“.

Sandrine Mylonas kann sich nach einer Lähmung eines Beines und eines Armes nicht bücken und bearbeitet eine Gartenfläche von 100 m2. „Da die Erde erhöht ist, ist meine Arbeitsfläche auf einer idealen Höhe und verringert meine Anstrengungen“ unterstreicht sie mit einem großen Lächeln. Wenn man die Pflanzen sieht, die in diesem Hochbeet wachsen kann man wirklich sagen, Sandrine hat den grünen Daumen!

Mit der finanziellen Unterstützung, welche uns von verschiedenen Institutionen gegeben wurde, zum Beispiel dem Fonds Helios, der Fondation Hans Wilsdorf, der Kleingärtnervereinigung von Genf, der Kleingärtnervereinigung der Romandie und schlussendlich des Schweizer Kleingärtnerverbandes, konnten die Arbeiten ohne die gesetzten budgetären Grenzen zu übertreten, realisiert werden.

Die Einweihung dieser 2 Behindertenparzellen fand am 14. September 2007 in Anwesenheit von vielen Vertretern des öffentlichen Lebens statt. Diese haben das Projekt begrüßt: „Diese Einrichtungen lassen niemanden unberührt“. „Hervorragende Gärten, ich kenne mehr als einen Bewohner der glücklich wäre sein Gemüse zu züchten“ erklärt ein Mitbegründer des Ferienheimes für Behinderte. „Es gibt keinen Grund dass der Gemüsegarten nicht Allen zugute kommen kann“ erklärt Thierry Houlmann. „Diese Einrichtungen sind die ersten der Schweiz und wir hoffen dass noch andere Organismen diesem Beispiel folgen werden“. Es braucht nicht speziell unterstrichen zu werden dass alle Infrastrukturen behindertengerecht sind. Sie entsprechen den Normen und den bestehenden Reglementen für Errichtungen, welche behindertengerecht sind. Das Vereinshaus ist auch mit einer Spezialtoilette für Behinderte ausgestattet.

Andere Vereinigungen des Genfer Kleingartenverbandes haben dieselben Prinzipien angewandt. Es gibt heute vier Kleingartenvereine in Genf, welche behinderte Menschen in ihren Reihen zählen. Die Familiengärtner in Bern haben ihre Parzellen für Behinderte letztes Jahr eingeweiht.

Description :

Le projet de parcelles pour personnes à mobilité réduite a son origine dans la perspicacité du président d’honneur de la FGJF et anciennement vice-président et membre d’honneur de la FSJF, Frédéric Schär.

Lui-même handicapé pendant de nombreuses années, ce projet est venu à point pour enlever cette idée reçue, « le plaisir du jardin est-il réservé uniquement à ceux dont le corps est en pleine santé »? Pour les personnes à capacité corporelle réduite, le jardinage représente une difficulté réelle. Que faire pour pallier ce problème ? La FGJF à fait preuve d’initiative pour réaliser les aménagements et qu’ils soient effectués au plus proche des besoins réels.

Pour ce faire, une étude de faisabilité s’est opérée avec l’aide de plusieurs institutions spécialisées telle que Foyer Handicap à Cressy. C’est ainsi que le comité central de la FGJF prenait finalement, en 2004, la décision de se lancer dans ce nouveau projet.

Entre temps, la Fédération genevoise s’est occupée de la mise en place d’un nouveau groupement « Les Blanchets » situé sur la commune du Grd Saconnex. L’idée d’une parcelle pour personnes à mobilité réduite fut immédiatement lancée et avec le soutien de la commune, cette parcelle a été réalisée avant celle de Plan-les-Ouates car facilitée d’emblée dans la création d’une nouvelle aire de jardins.

L’assemblée des délégués de la FGJF du 5 février 2005 accepte le prêt de CHF 40.000.- destiné à financer le départ des travaux.

Les membres du comité central de la FGJF et du président du groupement des jardins de Plan-les-Ouates, Thierry Houlmann, ont pris le projet en main jusqu’à sa réalisation. Thierry Houlmann confère, « Il a fallu séparer les bacs par des couloirs pour permettre le passage d’une chaise roulante. Rehausser les terres est une chose mais il faut penser à une quantité de petits détails dont l’arrosage constitue encore une difficulté pour les personnes atteintes dans leur handicap ». Celui-ci ajoute, « je cultive moi-même une parcelle de jardin, je connais donc le plaisir du délassement après une journée de travail ».

Ne pouvant se baisser suite à la paralysie d’une jambe et d’un bras, Sandrine Mylonas s’occupe de 100 mètres carrés. « Comme la terre est rehaussée, mon plan de travail a la hauteur idéale et diminue mes efforts » précise t-elle avec un grand sourire. A en juger par les plantes qui poussent dans les bacs, Sandrine a la main verte!

Grâce à l’aide financière apportée par diverses institutions, Fonds Helios, Fondation Hans Wilsdorf, l’Association Genevoise du Coin de Terre, l’Association romande des jardins familiaux et enfin la Fédération Suisse des jardins familiaux, les travaux ont pu avoir lieu sans dépasser la limite fixée dans le budget.

L’inauguration de ces deux parcelles pour personnes handicapées eut lieu le 14 septembre 2007 devant les autorités présentent. Celles-ci saluèrent l’initiative, « ces aménagements ne laissant pas indifférents ». «Des jardins exemplaires, je connais plus d’un résident qui serait heureux de cultiver ses légumes » explique le co-fondateur d’une maison de vacances pour personnes handicapées. « Il n’y a pas de raisons que le potager ne puisse pas profiter à tout le monde, déclare Thierry Houlmann ». « Ces réalisations sont les premières en Suisse et nous espérons que d’autres organismes suivront l’exemple.» Il va sans dire que toutes les infrastructures sont spécialement adaptées aux personnes souffrant d’une invalidité. Elles sont conformes aux normes et règlements en vigueur pour la construction adaptée aux handicapés. Le bâtiment commun est également équipé d’un WC spécialement adapté.

D’autres groupements de la FGJF ont appliqué le même principe et ce sont 4 groupements de jardins à Genève qui accueillent des personnes à mobilité réduite. Les jardins familiaux de Berne ont inauguré leur parcelle pour des personnes à mobilité réduite l’année dernière.
